Key Points
In the western area there is a renowned sandy beach.
To the north is a tonnara, dating back to the thirteenth century, now abandoned.
To the east, the coast is jagged and there are some sea caves, including the one called “del Polipo”.
There are also various rocks that emerge under the surface of the water.
They say about the place
There are no appropriate words to describe a spectacular place like the island of Capo Sparrow, unique in its geography form, located further south as coordinates of Tunis, climate and spectacular sea, the whole area is a real enchantment.
Curiosities
The fauna of the place counts on many rabbits, as well as beautiful very particular birds as goldfinches and gulls.
Where it is
The central point of the itinerary, the island of Capo Passero, faces the town of Portopalo, right in the extreme southern tip of Sicily. Bathed by the Ionian Sea, it measures about 35 hectares and is separated from the mainland by a shallow strip of sea, about 300 meters wide.

Capo Passero's island
The Capo Passero’s island faces the town of Portopalo, right in the extreme southern tip of Sicily. Bathed by the Ionian Sea, it measures about 35 hectares and is separated from the mainland by a shallow strip of sea, about 300 meters wide.
Tuna trap
Of particular visual impact, the tuna trap of Capo Passero, which played a more fundamental role than ever in the economy of the area.
Tafuri's Castle
The castle, which stands right next to what was the tonnara of Portopalo,
it was never inhabited by the Belmonte family, as this house had been designed as a summer residence.
Bracati's islet
Along the port of Marzamemi, stands the Isolotto Brancati, also called small island because its dimensions are very small (it is just as big as the apartment that houses, a small cottage).
San Lorenzo's beach
The beach of San Lorenzo is a very charming stretch of coast characterized by great beaches and small coves. The fine light sand is bathed by a turquoise and crystalline sea.
Vendicari's beach
The beach of Vendicari is one of the most fascinating coastlines of the Reserve. It is located in the southern area, between the beach of Calamosche and that of San Lorenzo, a beach that borders the boundaries of the reserve. It has a very long sandy coastline, with a shallow sea bottom that slopes gently towards the open sea.
Calamosche's beach
Calamosche, better known by the locals as “Funni Musca” is a sandy cove that stretches for about 200 meters, bounded by two rocky promontories that shelter the currents, with the result of an always calm and crystalline sea.
The currents' island
It is connected to the mainland by an artificial arm, destroyed several times by the waves of the sea. When the low tide transforms the island into a peninsula, it represents the southernmost tip of the Sicilian island, geographically further south of Tunis and further north of Hammamet.
